Quick Installation

Tips for installing your PRF shelving system

Everything is on video to help you with the installation. Check out our videos or our YouTube Channel. The most important thing to be careful of is to not select too long of screws for the brackets or horizontal rails that the shelves connect to.

You might have guessed it, yes - did it. We installed four units in a Fedx contract driver's package delivery truck and inadvertently put two nicely formed holes in the side of the truck. #$@&%*!

Fortunately, my son and partner had the brilliant idea to place a rivet in each hole and touch it up with the matching white paint. The truck already had a bunch of rivets for the panels and inner framing; two more will not be noticeable. (Jon Luke, awesome job kiddo!) -You folks out there do realize that his brilliance comes from me, naturally. ;)

The rest is easy. Install your rails with the provided hard ware at the needed height so that the sliding brackets hook to the rails. You may have a fender well in the way of a leg. The leg will have to be cut at the height of the fender well using a hack saw or saws-all, but save the cut portion of the leg. An inner coupling, 3/4 X 1/8 square tube, can be used to reconnect the cut portion should you use the system in another application. Just drill holes at the coupling point and use rivets to fix the leg.John Conodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13650368939915882285noreply@blogger.com0Central Florida, FL, USA28.0582985 -81.86614420000000824.463727499999997 -87.051691200000008 31.6528695 -76.680597200000008tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1123763608620147920.post-65771008775183310642018-05-25T14:13:00.000-07:002018-05-25T14:13:22.900-07:00Prototypes

There are numerous prototypes of shelving systems, multilevel shelving systems on casters, folding carts, folding bunk beds, multipurpose transforming folding carts, and the latest being a folding bakers rack, which I am still working on. All of these conform to the patented folding mechanism, except the bakers rack. There will have to be another patent for that project. The bakers rack is potentially a big deal. Many bakeries have not just one or two of these racks, but dozens if not even more. I have figured out a way to fold them with a specially designed hinge that would open up square footage in their factories, the most valuable commodity in business.I already know that it works, but the hinge needs a little more up grading. It will be released as soon as I can find the time to finish the project.John Conodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13650368939915882285noreply@blogger.com0Central Florida, FL, USA28.0582985 -81.86614420000000824.463727499999997 -87.051691200000008 31.6528695 -76.680597200000008tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1123763608620147920.post-5181872635608871062018-05-11T04:00:00.000-07:002018-05-25T13:52:00.755-07:00Initiation By Fire

Some things are best left to be learned

Another problem that had to be over come in the development process was errors in precise measurements of the placement of the pan brackets. This was critical because it also served as the leg mounts. They had to be perfectly placed so the shelving system would fold and open cleanly.

Keep in mind that I was doing much of this design work my self with minimal assistance from fabricators who do this for a living. They cost money. It took three attempts at building the jigs that sufficiently and finally do the job of perfectly placing the brackets in the needed positions on the pans.

The first jig I made for the job I was initially embarrassed about. But, at this point, and because of the success finally reached, there is no shame now. It was made of wood, and there was quite a bit of time and money invested in it's creation. There was one huge problem with it though; wood, hot metal and welding do not go together very well. As my welder began to use them for the job, the jig began to smolder. The welder of course had his helmet on and could not see that the wood was beginning to catch on fire. I had to stop him; back to the drawing board.

My welder later told me that he knew the jig was not going to work. I asked him why he did not say something? He said, "Some things are best left to be learned." I later made him a partner in the company. He has become a trusted friend through this process. Thank you Mike Moore for sparing me a little humiliation.John Conodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13650368939915882285noreply@blogger.com0Central Florida, FL, USA28.0582985 -81.86614420000000824.463727499999997 -87.051691200000008 31.6528695 -76.680597200000008tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1123763608620147920.post-67720935567747453712018-05-05T00:00:00.000-07:002018-05-05T00:00:05.219-07:00Luna Goes for a Walk

Every day, I take her for her walk along side the Halifax river here in Ormond Beach. She is a rescue like myself, and we have a lot in common. Although she is seven years old, she is like a child and has an endless amount of energy. I am in my fifties and I too, possess boundless energy and think much like a child. Just as Luna, I see the world as my play ground and enjoy existing and playing and being with her, my boys, my wife, and long time friends. I enjoy working, creating, sharing my ideas and thoughts. Life is absolutely joyful and Luna sees it the same way; and we both did not always see it that way, until someone entered our life and offered us something more.

The Goal

Why set a goal if it is not far reaching? A goal should be extraordinary, it should test the boundaries of one's abilities!

I think most people are afraid to set goals because of the fear or disappointment of not achieving what one has challenged himself with. Our Lord, Jesus Christ said "Why do you fear tomorrow, for you have little control of even the small things in your life?"

The ultimate and absolute goal for PRFect Shelving Solutions is to make the universal, portable patented shelving system standard equipment for every rental truck built. This includes U-Haul, Budget, Penski, Rider, and Enterprise. This is not an impracticable idea; in fact, it is very practical!

Why do these trucks not have shelving when it is now an available option to equip each of them with a tool that just about every rental client would use. From the home owner mover, to the giant package delivery companies that rent thousands of them every year-UPS, Fedx, USPS, Amazon, and the retail delivery companies and their contract drivers. The PRF system is a one time purchase that will out last the truck it is placed in, so it can be placed in the next truck that replaces the retired truck. The rental companies will add an accessory to their truck that will bring in added revenue indefinitely. And the users of these trucks will be thrilled to have the use of this back saving tool that will allow the truck to be used more efficiently through the maximization of cargo space.

I have no reason to fear anything; there are continuous changes in the ever evolving society we exist in that makes ours lives more convenient. PRF Shelving is just another company that happens to be providing one more convenience. Control? I would not have the ability to think if it was not for the mind given to me by God. What do I have control of?

Sacrifices

Where do I start? For one thing, it would not be true to say to you that I have sacrificed to the point where it hurts, because that is how I define sacrifice. It must hurt to be a true sacrifice.

It is true that we have went to extraordinary measures to build this company, but I wanted to do it and fortunately the wife gave me her support. Mary is the one who has truly sacrificed, and she did it for my passion not her own. Time is the biggest thing given to this kind of venture.

PRF Shelving was built while working a full time job for thirteen years, the last five being the most intense. I worked, and still do, countless hours - from the time I get up until the time I go to bed - however I had to learned to listen to my body and heart when it was time to quit for some down time.

I know exactly when to stop; things begin to go bad instantly if I do not. We once had an order of eight 10 foot units for a Fedx contract driver in Illinois and he wanted them as soon as possible. It was the largest order up to that point and I was excited and willing, but terrified as well.

It was me and my two sons who had to build them and ready them for shipment. I promised the truck owner 4 weeks. My two boys both had and still have part time jobs and are in college full time, my oldest for Aviation safety and A/P Aviation Maintenance and my youngest Commercial Aviation Pilot training.

In four weeks, the 8 units were completed and shipped to the truck owner. There were times when I got up two or three hours early to weld, go to work, come home and eat, and weld more until an hour before going to bed. The day began at 1am and ended at 7pm. The boys never complained and helped me through out the order, even working in the rain under a tent in the back yard prepping the units for shipment.

That is what it takes some times when you commit to something. I am so thankful to all three of them and their sacrifices!John Conodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13650368939915882285noreply@blogger.com0Central Florida, FL, USA28.0582985 -81.86614420000000824.463727499999997 -87.051691200000008 31.6528695 -76.680597200000008tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1123763608620147920.post-18272480888858053782018-04-18T16:04:00.000-07:002018-04-18T16:05:35.603-07:00Welding 101: Learning to Weld Aluminum

I think most inventors share a common problem - lack of money. Why is it that the person with the idea does not have the money to back it up?

The first mistake I made was not doing enough research on a used welder I had my sights on before buying it. It was a 1985 Airco 300 amp and she is a beast, still in use today. This welder is for the professional and experienced welder. Definitely not for the novice... or the fool heart-ed! She has more controls, knobs, dials, and meters than the space shuttle!
But me being on the hunt to save money and determined to get this company up and running in the process, I bought it and figured that I would find a manual some where that would show me how to use it. Ummmmm, no! There is no manual known in existence for this thing. In fact, there was very little info out there at all on the old monster of a machine. Of course, I went where every person with a need to know goes in today's up dated society: You-Tube.
I was unable to find the same welder, but I was able to find welders and users of these type welders that provided me with enough instruction to at least teach me how to turn it on. With the help of You-Tube's unlimited resources, my patience, determination (stubbornness) my son turning dials and knobs while welding, I eventually learned to use this thing and became quite good at it. Although there are still many mysteries about the old girl, I have grown to love her, which now explains why the old fellow who sold her to me had tears in his eyes when I loaded up the truck.
This was the case with PRF shelving in the beginning, and one of the many tasks I had to learn and take on myself due to cost control was buying a tig welder and learning how to use it. I had a little welding experience, so I thought "how difficult could this be?"
When you are in the development phase of a new product, you have to think outside the box. Or just rebuild it entirely!

Tool Development for the Manufacturing

One of the problems we were having was welding the pans together with out metal distortion. The extruded pan has a seam down the middle where the two halves are joined making the complete 22" wide shelving pan. Aluminum hates too much heat and will warp, twist, and distort itself when welding it. Usually, the metal that is being welded is clamped down to a table with various clamping devices, which is what we were doing, but this method took too much time. So, I invented a special welding table designed specifically for the welding of the seam with speed and proficiency in mind. The table has a thick plate of aluminum for the surface that is "perfectly true" (i.e. flat) that aids in absorbing the heat. The table is equipped with an adjustable bridge that glides up and down the length of the table with a screw vice and adapter that presses down on the pan's seam while it is being welded. The process is begin stitch welding the seam at one end and move the bridge down the length of the pan as you continue to join the two halves together. Sorry, I can't show you any pics of the table; this tool would be great for many other welding applications and mine is the first of it's kind. So it is going to be another patent project in the near future - keep watching for more information on this!

The journey to today has been amazing, but we wanted to share a little bit of our story with all of you.

Who Are You?

Hello folks! I am John Conod, inventor of the patented, universal, portable shelving system specifically engineered for the cargo, peak season parcel delivery, and storage industries. We chose the name PRFfect Shelving Solutions for our company which provides our clients with this unique product. It is a name that we purposely selected for our company that "perfectly" reflects the vision and purpose behind our product. P is for Portable, R is for Removable, F is for Foldable. No other company provides a tool of this magnitude for an industry growing as rapidly as the freight and transport industry. The goal is simple: we are introducing a mind blowing solution to a problem that has existed since the beginning of peak season package delivery. I am referring of course to seasonal increased delivery volume resulting from the mad rush for Christmas online purchases. Parcel companies now have a solution for the need of shelving in the thousands of rental trucks used to move the massive online volume. Our shelving system is also aimed at providing an easy solution for the contract driver, who can now purchase a do - it - yourself shelving system for their delivery truck. They no longer have to send out their truck to an expensive, time consuming, inconvenient fabrication company because of our shelving kit provided by PRFect Shelving Solutions.

What Were Your Influences?

Influence was the recognition of a need that seemed obvious to me. I have spent the last 33 years working for the largest package delivery company in the world who desperately struggled moving delivery volume with rental trucks that have no shelving. Time, energy, and valuable resources are wasted every year because the rental trucks used to move the seasonal volume can not be loaded efficiently and to their full capacity with out shelving. The light weight aluminum portable shelving system was invented to aid this industry in their massive responsibility to the world's commerce.

What Was It Like In The Beginning?

The idea occurred to me on my lunch hour at work, and I quickly drew it up on a piece of scrap paper. It seemed so logical and so simple to me. From that moment on I was driven to put this idea into reality, and here it is. I gave my crude drawing to an engineer student I knew at work, who was working part time while going to school. On her off time, and for a school project, she engineered the drawing for me. I then gave the drawings to a local metal works fabrication company who built the very first portable shelving system for me. I had a box truck that I used for another side business at the time and immediately placed the system in the truck. I placed a bunch of weight on it and drove the truck for several weeks. Remarkably, the system did exactly what I had envisioned performing perfectly (there is that word again). I knew I had something big.

Tell Us About Improvements You Have Made Since Then

<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">There was a need to improve the making of the system, to produce it in the most efficient and inexpensive way possible. Around this time my wife Mary became involved and through her contacts in the women's business community led me to Eastern Metal Supply, one of the largest producers of extruded aluminum companies in the south east. I met with the owner, Greg Weeks, to show him the prototype and exchange ideas on how to improve the system. The results are the incredible product we have now. The pans to our system are extruded, which is a much less expensive, more attractive, clean, and precise method of building the system. His company built twelve foot prototypes and allowed me to over see and learn about the extrusion process. It was a ground breaking experience that solved a huge production problem I was facing. I became even more confident in the direction we were headed, success.
When loading the rental trucks with seasonal package volume, there has never been a reliable and efficient way to organize and segregate the load efficiently, until now. The PRFect Portable, Removable, Foldable Shelving system will solve this problem and transform the seasonal rental truck into an efficient UPS delivery truck for the first time in a century. The one time purchase of the PRF shelving system can be folded and stored, permitting a seasonal use for UPS year after year for another century making the most efficient parcel company in the world even more efficient. PRFect Shelving Solutions is honored for just the consideration of UPS using our system. It sends PRF Shelving a message that the potential is great for the PRFect Shelving system.John Conodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13650368939915882285noreply@blogger.com0
